Stript Snacks Biltong Hoisin Lettuce Cups

Serves - 2



  • 2 baby gem lettuces
  • 2 packets of Black Pepper Stript Snacks Biltong 
  • ½ a small orange bell pepper finely sliced
  • ¼ of a medium cucumber sliced and diced
  • 1 spring onion finely chopped
  • 1 red chili sliced
  • Small handful fresh coriander roughly chopped or torn
  • 2 heaped tsp toasted sesame seeds
  • 1 lime sliced into wedges to serve


Hoisin Sauce (will make more than you need, store leftovers in the fridge for up to five days!)


  • 1 tbsp (15g) roasted cashew butter 
  • 1 tsp raw honey 
  • 80ml (1/3 cup) coconut aminos
  • 2 cloves of garlic minced
  • 1/4 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/4 tsp Chinese Five Spice powder
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) water
  • 2 tbsp fresh orange juice
  • 1/2 tbsp white wine vinegar
  • 1/2 tsp tomato paste



For the Hoisin Sauce

  • Blend together all ingredients in your food processor. Place in a pot over a medium heat, bring to the boil, reduce heat and simmer for 5 -10 minutes; until thickened to your desired consistency. Set aside; store in the fridge if making in advance!

Allow “eaters” to assemble lettuce cups themselves or layer up Biltong, pepper, onion and cucumber in baby gem lettuce leaves, top with a slice or two of chili, drizzle with hoisin sauce , garnish with coriander and sesame seeds and serve with some fresh lime wedges for a squeeze of final freshness before digging in!
